There are some people who seek to divide us along racial, ethnic, cultural or political lines. Lately, there has been too much rancor, fighting and disagreement in our public discourse. It does not have to be this way. As Americans, there is much more that unites us than there is that divides us. We ought to seek for unifying principles while finding common ground and working together to improve our country. Civility is the operative word. No single political party is solely responsible for the best things in America. The country we have today was made great by contributions from a diversity of people, parties and ideas.
For more than 30 years, I served in the military which has a diverse population of women and men who represent a vast diversity of racial, ethnic and cultural backgrounds. I know from experience that it is possible for people from diverse backgrounds to work together to reach a common goal. The most effective military leaders seek input and critique from others, including their peers and even those they lead.
As your representative in Congress, I will fight against those who push critical race theory and who seek to divide us along racial lines. I will truly listen to others while seeking to understand and then find areas of agreement.
