Creating Jobs and Raising Wages

The most effective method for creating jobs and raising wages is a strong, vibrant and growing economy. High rates of employment lead to employers competing for talented employees. Competition for workers in a free economy will raise wages. Individuals can enhance their opportunity for higher wages by increasing their knowledge and education. Therefore, we must focus on education and training so that Nevadans can improve their lives and those of their children.

Lesly and I have each worked as hourly employees. Through personal experience we know the challenge of making ends meet. In my financial planning business, I worked with dozens of families who were struggling with paying their bills. I understand the need for good jobs with livable wages and good benefits.

The path to higher wages goes through education and training. This includes college, technical training, apprenticeships and on-the-job training. I’m pleased that Nevada has invested in Career and Technical Training (CTE) in our public and charter schools.

As your representative Congress, I will support legislation that makes it possible for more people to access higher education (including career and technical training).
