As a nation, we must get our budget and debt under control. The Federal deficit is approaching $30 trillion and growing by billions (even trillions) each year. This is not sustainable. Our children, grandchildren and future generations will pay a very very high price if we do not have the strength, courage and will to address our budget and debt. The problem is that politicians are afraid to be honest with their constituents. These politicians ignore the problem and pass it along to future generations. They pass “take-it-or-shut-down-the-government” spending bills, while refusing to do the hard work of examining every program within the budget. All the while, the financial position of the Nation continues to deteriorate. It is now one of our top national security issues.
As a Certified Financial Planner, I have worked with families and businesses to improve and strengthen their finances. The first step in the planning process was always to develop a budget and to list all sources of debt. With my guidance, individuals, families and businesses were able to develop plans to live within their means, eliminate debt and save for the future. The United States can benefit from the same type of planning.
As your representative in Congress, I will work with other like-minded law makers to oppose the status quo and insist on budget reform. While protecting entitlements for American’s over age 55, I will look for entitlement reform that will protect benefits for future generations.
